The dance custom, a feathered net hanging down the back from the armpits; a tuft of owl feathers or hawk feathers skewered to the hair within the head net;a sewn band of yellow-hammer quills worn either across the forehead or along the top of the head and hanging down the back;and a pair of "plumes", each forking into two slender pilant rods, feather wrapped or tipped, and often with little dangling mats of yellow-hammer quills attached. The head net filled with down was worn, or down was stuck to the face. A whistle might be blown. A long rattle of coccoons or a bunch of twigs held up to conceal the face was occasionally carried.Women wore all or part of the men's regalia, but possesed one ornament of their own: a thick forehead band from projections on which little mats of orange quills swayed.
